family lovin'

The other day I mentioned that we went on a little trip to visit family and let them meet Oliver for the first time. We spent one week at Landon's parent's house. On Monday his dad's side of the family came over to visit and love on the boys and on Tuesday his mom's side of the family came over to visit. Those weren't the only days we saw aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. There was a pretty steady stream of family coming in and out of the house while we were there. Always someone to play with Emerson and cuddle with Oliver. A lot of our week looked like this:

Our boys are so deprived of attention when we go to Gigi and Poppy's house....

Nearly every time Aunt Julie comes to visit she brings a gift for Emerson, and now Oliver too. Spoiled, I tell ya. At least her gifts are books [and an accompanying stuffed animal or clothes for the wee one. For some reason I don't mind the gifts as long as they are practical, like books and clothes. I love that Emerson loves reading and books as much as he does, they really are his favorite thing.

It is such a blessing that Emerson and Oliver have the chance to get to know their great-grandparents. Emerson absolutely adores his Papaw and it seems as though Oliver does too.

Like I said, these boys are so neglected when we go visit. ha.

While we were in, we headed to Lexington one day to see how much UK's campus has changed. Landon went there for his undergrad and MBA degrees and both of his sisters have gone there as well. Meredith, the youngest sister, is about to start her senior year this year, so we went to see her new place while Landon went to a few meetings. I always like visiting family and friends and seeing the place they call home, we rarely have a reason to go to Lexington so it was a treat to see his sister's house.

For the most part we spent time with family, but on Friday morning Landon's childhood best friend came to visit for a while and brought his two kids. It was so sweet to see them all play together. The boys look like their daddies, respectively, and I'm sure Landon's mom was having plenty of flashbacks to Landon's younger years.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it's always so special when we get to go visit Landon's family. They have welcomed me into their family with open arms and make feel at home. Emerson and Oliver are blessed to be apart of such a loving, fun, generous, and sweet family. I'm glad we decided to make the trip and that we were able to stay as long as we were. We'll most likely get to go for a short visit in October as one of our friends is getting married, but it will be a much shorter trip.
