Oliver / two month update

Oliver,

Happy two months old little man! Yesterday we celebrated two months of your life by visiting with some family early in the morning and then spending the rest of the day as a family of four, running a few errands, eating at Chic-fil-a, and swimming! Though, you and I were more of spectators while your big brother and daddy swam in the pool. You didn’t seem to mind it one bit, sitting in the shade with me. It was the perfect little day and such a wonderful afternoon. I know I didn’t get your monthly update posted yesterday, I was just busy enjoying the day with you and our family. Forgive me?

I’m not sure how much you weigh right now, you have a doctor’s appointment on Friday so we’ll find out then, but you are growing both in length and in weight. You are so long, you’re already in three month sleepers. Most of the other clothes you’re wearing are three month, though there are still some newborn and 0-3 month clothes that fit you. You’ve moved on to wearing size one diapers and those are working well for now.

You are such a happy baby and so agreeable. You’re content to just hang out with us no matter what we’re doing and you make for a really good shopping buddy, just so long as you have a full belly. We’ve been out and about a few times when it comes time for you to eat, so I just sit in a fitting room and feed you and as soon as you’re full, you are all smiles and as chatty as can be while we finish our shopping.

Speaking of eating, right now you eat about every three hours. Sometimes it’s a little less and sometimes you’ll go a little bit longer. Usually you’ll take a longer nap in the afternoon and so you’ll go nearly four hours before you eat again. At night you’ve gone as many as eight hours between feedings. Thank you for that. You're also a pretty speedy eater. You'll eat in as little as 15-20 minutes sometimes. Though you have been known to take your time here and there. Occasionally you'll be so hungry that you feel like you have to eat super fast; and well, that just doesn't end well for either of us as it usually means you spit up all over yourself and me. But usually you don't spit up.

Sleep is still one of your favorite things to do, you take multiple naps throughout the day and then at night you’ll usually have your last feeding around ten or eleven and then you’ll sleep until four or five. I’ll hear you grunting and know to feed you before you start your little wail. You are the best little sleeper and we couldn’t be more thankful. You still like to be swaddled tight and will sleep better [longer] when you are in a tight swaddle. So every night I'm sure to wrap you up tight. You've been spoiled this month and have gotten to meet lots of family, so you've been taking lots of naps in their arms. So as long as you're in a swaddle or being held you're a champion sleeper.

Even though you love sleeping, you are staying more and more awake each and every day. You’re starting to develop a pattern when it comes to you staying awake, sleeping, and eating. I think in the next few weeks I’m going to become more diligent about helping you establish that routine, but you’re already doing that on your own, so I won’t have to do too much to help.

You have become a very smiley little baby and love when we talk to you. Your face lights up in the biggest little gummy grin and your eyes shine so bright. I love love love your smile and will do whatever it takes so I can see that smile of yours. You’re pretty good about sharing your smile with mommy and daddy, and sometimes other people are lucky enough to see it too. When you grin your big grin you show two little dimples. I love them.

We had lots of family visit and have visited lots of family this month, so you got to meet your grandma, mommy's sisters and their kids [six cousins!], one of your uncles, your great grandparents Mamaw, Granny and Papaw, a few great aunts and uncles, lots of daddy's cousins and some of their kids. You also got to meet your other set of great grandparents, great aunt and uncle, and some of mommy's cousins. You've been a busy little guy and have also been loved on so very much by all of these wonderful people.

It is hard to imagine that we used to go about our days without you. When I see pictures of our family before you were born I feel like a piece of the puzzle was missing. That was you! You fit into our hearts and family like you’ve always been there. I’m beyond blessed that you are apart of our family now. I can’t imagine life without you in it. Thanks for making me your mama!

I love you more than all the stars in the sky.
Mama
