seven years

On Sunday October, 4 Landon and I celebrated seven years of wedded bliss. We hit the town up [read about it here] in a fashion that is so perfectly us. We didn't get cards or do big gifts. Shoot, we didn't do any gifts and have just agreed upon what our gift this year should be. In the past we've usually done some bigger gifts [or called them gifts to make it feel like it was okay to buy such and such -always need a reason/excuse/occasion to buy something around here]. Our first anniversary: a house. Second: a puppy. Third: a vacuum. Fourth: a Fall Nutcracker. Last year: a vacuum [fun fact: in seven years of marriage we have gone through four vacuums. We're currently on our fifth. Here's to hoping our current one lasts longer than the others have].

Anyhow, because we've been married for seven years now I thought it's be fun to take a little walk down memory lane...

One : Texas
After we got married I moved down to Texas to be with Landon. He had started grad. school at A&M in August and had moved all of our stuff down there when he went in August. After our wedding we packed our car with two suitcases and a bunch of wedding gifts and headed to our new home. We lived in a little one bedroom apartment with a tiny kitchen. But I loved it. It was home. And we were together. Out of the five months leading up to our wedding we had only seen each other for about a week. It was nice to actually be together. Landon did his school stuff [sound familiar?] and I was blessed with a wonderful job at a school not too far from our house.

Two : Louisville
Landon had applied to jobs everywhere. But the job he got was right back in Kentucky, a little more than an hour away from where he grew up. So we moved back and bought a house. I started working on my master's degree and looking for a job.

Three : Travels
While Landon was working for his company, he was able to travel quite a bit. Sometimes his trips would be short and he'd go alone, sometimes they were a little bit longer and I was able to tag along. One year, he was stationed in Davis, CA for the summer and then in the Arlington, VA area for the fall and early winter months. Because he was gone for such a long time, I was able to go with him. When in Davis we traveled around California and went on lots of adventures together - San Fransisco, to see the Redwoods, Yosemite, Napa Valley, and other fun places. We loved it. While in the D.C. area we visited the museums and just enjoyed life at a different pace. He worked, I did school, we had little adventures.

four : puppy
Apart from buying a house, our first really big commitment [other than our "I dos"] was getting a puppy. That little pup brought so much fun into our home. It was fun to have a little buddy around the house.

five : baby
Somewhere along the way we decided it was time to start a family, we were beyond blessed and welcomed Emerson into our lives and life has not been the same since.

six : Illinois
Landon felt lead to pursue a doctorate. We both prayed about it, a lot. And he applied to one school with a program he was interested in. He was accepted and got the funding he needed in order to go back to school. We packed up our little house and said good-bye to our family and friends in Kentucky to make a new home in Illinois.

seven : another baby
We felt like our family wasn't complete, so we added another little nugget to make us a family of four.

A lot more has happened in those seven years, but those are the big things. I feel like there is so much more I could say and share, but for today I'll keep it short and sweet. We have had some fun adventures and I know we will have hundreds more. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us and I cannot wait to spend seventy more years with this man of mine.
